A proud history for over 100 years

Our core purpose remains the same as it did over 100 years ago: to offer the local community the opportunity to showcase their produce and homewares and compete against other like-minded people.

The Show brings the community together to celebrate the rich farming history of the area, and acknowledges the agricultural and horticultural traditions that have existed in the region since its foundation.

Presidents Message

2017 President’s Report

With brilliant sunshine, free entry and the added bonus of free entertainment throughout the day brought record crowds to last year’s 2017 Parklea Pakenham Show on Saturday – in excess of 10,000 people and great numbers for our dog competition on the Sunday.

This year brings together a very strong vibrant committee with the added partnership with the Casey Cardinia Library and the Living Learning Centre. We witnessed a day that was certainly full of colour, multicultural flavours and good old-fashioned family fun for families to enjoy.

Congratulations to our farming and wider communities who brought the country to the city people – with alpacas, sheep, goats, chooks, ducks, rabbits, sheep shearing, blacksmith and exhibits from Glenmac Tractors - Pakenham, Emerald Vintage Engines,  Melbourne Meccano Club and Hornby Trains, Thunderbirds Rod and Custom Club and the Victorian Police Association with their Mounted Police in action.

Young and experienced heads introduced to our pavilion section for the first time a Senior College Design Technology (woodwork, metalwork, jewellery and textiles) and Make and Wear Competition (outfit, accessories and millinery). Thanks to our 2016 junior ambassador Meaghan Venables and Leanne Venables.

I thank all the committee, judges, stewards, volunteers and major sponsors (Parklea, Pakenham Central Marketplace, Glenmac Tractors, Pakenham Produce and Saddlery, Casey Cardinia Library, Cardinia Shire, Living Learning Centre, Pakenham Gazette, Yellow Brick Road, Kathy Burgstahler Real Estate, Pakenham Racing Club, Tim Mepstead Lawyers – Pakenham, Alex Scott and Staff and South East Water. To all our loyal businesses and community groups who supported our Show Schedule and Wally Wombat trail showbag; encouraging young families to enjoy the activities and products along his trail without spending too much money.

Sincere thanks to Rod Capuano from OBrien Real Estate – Pakenham for his expertise as MC for the day as well as our signage throughout the Cardinia Shire.

We thank our Senior Ambassador Catherine Ritchies and Junior Ambassador Tessa Holly for being such outstanding ambassadors for our society – which we are very proud of. Both girls are held in high esteem within our wider community. Congratulations to Tessa – runner-up at the Victorian State Level held in Shepparton.

Congratulations to Jane Comben who was ably supported by Jess Robinson for the 2016 Horse Show. Great numbers and support for our annual event held at the Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre; the last week in August – and the last opportunity for horse people to enter before the Melbourne Show. Jess has now taken the reins for the 2017 Horse Show. We congratulate Jess for her outstanding efforts and our horse show for 2017 is definitely in capable hands.

The first Saturday in November is definitely etched on the calendar for the Hoof and Hook Competition thanks to Roger Leamon – with record numbers - 71 plus head and a supportive crowd in attendance for the judging and dinner which followed.

A huge credit to the society, well done and I cannot thank you enough for all the hard work.

We look forward and will strive as a committee to make the Parklea Pakenham Show the “Number One Major Event” in our Cardinia Shire. Mark it on your calendar  – Saturday, 17 March, 2018.

Sincere regards

Geoff Young, 2017 Pakenham Show President
